Leonard Frank took the top photo September 19th, 1930. Hulk 'Pacific Gatherer' snagged middle span. Tide rose pressing ship into bridge. Collapse ensued. Middle span gathered into the Pacific.  Now rail traffic. First through a tunnel then across the inlet. First across the inlet then through the tunnel. One way.

River salvage. Old corporate landfill rusting away. Rust hulled the ship sinks idly. Idly sinking the rust hulled ship slowly sinks. Impressive as it rests aside smaller rusting shells. Defiant as it resists salvage.

Decorated tree hung. Tree top lynched. Baubled and belled, swinging tree top hung. In grove near river the treetop decorated hung. Tree baubles and bells hung on top. Top hung tree hung. Carols sung under top tree twirling. Bonfire pit nearby.

False Creek Trail (1860). Westminster Road. Kingsway (1913). Joseph Jones owned a milk ranch at this intersection in 1896. A stream ran through it. Pioneer Jones dreamed of pho broth rich in star anise, ginger, clove, cardamom, fennel seed and roast onion.

The barber died decades ago or moved on down the highway away from the park gangs and drive-by dreams of teenagers off to hot bright beaches.  Yorkshire pudding batter made. Roast trimmings and claret. Crisp and sunny.

Hundred year old lane way home. Edge of Hicksville so named for the Hicks family who lived in a number of houses in the area. Near the banks of the old Brewery Creek  where it flowed off of Tea Swamp. Snow depth: 6cms.

Malcolm Lowry lived here. So did this salmon. They both swam across the inlet. Lowry swam for booze. The salmon swam for food or love. Overcast.

E.V. Edmonds of New Westminster owned Lot 301 before he sold it off block by block, parcel by parcel. Known as "No Man's Land" because it wasn't adjoined to a neighboring municipality (Vancouver, South Vancouver, Burnaby) the Lot was not incorporated into Vancouver until 1911. Council voted to annex the property and approved a budget of $150,000 to be spent on infrastructure upgrades. Each of the streets and avenues was named after a relation of Edmonds. Most were renamed by the 1940's. Most of the subdivision was built on boggy swampland later named Tea Swamp after the prolific growth of Labrador Tea in the area.
